Qingdao 15th Street

Is this a cake?

...If it is, after flying across half of the world I think it may not taste that good...

We are recently engaged to work on Qingdao 15th Street, in the town famous for Tsingtao Beer in China (Qingdao is an alternative spelling for Tsingtao).
A *very rough* idea about the project, is to create a "Japan Town" in Qingdao, which boasts a Japanese population of some 30,000.
It is funny in a way; the other day we have just made an observation that in Sydney, there are "hubs" for people with different cultural backgrounds (eg, Chinese, Thai, Korean, Greek, Lebanese.. the list goes on) owing to the multicultural character of Sydney, but Japanese tend to be a lot more dispersed.  I wonder why.

Anyhow, this is what is in the box...

This is JJ who recently joined the Facet Studio team, these beautiful models were crafted by him

carefully packed for transport, to take to initial concept presentation at Qingdao... cotton balls all over the place....

Viola! Wish us luck!!

Manpower! #2

Following the last post, here is the process of hanging the extra extra long steel beams.
...did I mention that the steel beams weighed roughly 200kg each?......

one is up on one end..

..then the other end...

second one is up on one end...

temporary props. the beams can not be fixed to the wall directly at this moment as the junction between beam and wall is not right-angled - the beams need to be levelled as designed prior to permanent fixture

getting the other end up

firstly on the ladder (I remain amazed that the ladder did not collapse under the weight!)

1...2...3...!

slowly.......carefully......... (notice the temporary prop at this end)

builder Charles can even spare a hand to wave at the camera!

once both beams are propped up, our curious client Ohuchi had to come in to experience how the space would potentially feel like...

permanent fixture to one end

fixing to the other end

longgg....... builder Ken checking our drawings to make sure things are done correctly before all fixed (before all is too late!) - good to cautious than sorry!

well.. from the outside you can't really tell what is going on inside hey!
